York Pubs in 1834

Although there are a very good selection of pubs today in the city, historically they were the main location for locals to visit after work and there were a large number of pubs and taverns. Most of these have disappeared and are no longer present, and most that still survive have been enlarged over the decades. Below is a list of the pubs and taverns which were open in 1834 (including 11 called the Bay Horse!), which doesn’t include the other inns and beer-sellers in the city.
