Fossgate

Fossgate

Named after the river which runs through the centre of York, Foss Bridge is situated at the end of the street. Fossgate was once also known as Tricker’s Lane after some dodgy market traders who worked in the area.

Mary Tuke’s first grocer’s shop was on the street, and Fossgate also connects Lady Peckett’s Yard with Pavement. The Merchant Adventurers’ Hall is also situated off the street.
