College Street

College Street was formerly known as Vicar’s Lane and also Little Alice Lane. St. William’s College, built in 1461, is situated on College Street, from which the street takes its current name.

In 1751 John Wesley visited the city and gave a service in the Countess of Huntingdon’s Chapel, which was situated in a court just off College Street. George Hudson would have worked in a draper’s shop along this street when he was an apprentice in the early nineteenth century.
