Bootham

Bootham

The name Bootham derives from the old Norse word for market booths, which was Butham.

Situated at the city end of Bootham is Bootham Bar and also on the road are Bootham School, Bootham Park Hospital and although now demolished, the School for the Blind was built here in the 1880s. The poet WH Auden was born at number 54 in February 1907.
